Can we lose the use of the word "guys" to refer to all people, both men and women? I've never liked this word and never liked its use by people when referring to a group of mixed sex or gender people. Yes, I know it's a tradition, especially in the business world and often used by women.
Men rail when called "girls", but then men bitch when women complain about the word "guys" when used about them. It's sexist and men know and still use it. It only shows you're inconsiderate of others to distinguish them and identify them correctly. It's not even correct English. Just look up the proper definition, do you see the word women anywhere except as archaic colloquism?
But more so, it's not just sexist, it's demeaning and blatantly denying women their identity as women. It's also transphobic when used to describe transwomen, no matter their status (transition) or looks (meaning from unpassable to beautiful). It's impolite, unprofessional and inappropriate. There are tons of alternative words available, especially in a professional setting.
I always tried to avoid using it. It's not hard, try words like everyone, folks, all of you, people, etc. Just use your imagination or consult any thesarus. It's time to be decent and proper for everyone's sake. Try it, you'll find it's easy to do and makes you look and sound more human. And it might just make you feel more human too.
